Digital Signage Merges Tech and Food to Help Promote Local Culinary Concepts at Stadium
Broncos Stadium at Mile High deploys interactive food carts to help enhance the club level experience by introducing back stories on local chef creations.
In late fall, Broncos Stadium at Mile High is swarming with football fans. The smell of brauts and beer fill the air as 76,000 fans unite in hopes of witnessing their teams next big win.
Located minutes from Downtown Denver, Broncos Stadium at Mile High is the largest venue in the city hosting a little over 1 million guests a year. From football games to concerts, the stadium attracts many of today's biggest acts and events.
Like many stadiums of its size, managing the food and beverage experience is no easy task. Satisfying 76,000 hungry fans is a major undertaking. With so many different pallets and budgets, patrons demand a wide range of dining options. The stadium, must constantly innovate in order to ensure lines move quickly and fans are satisfied.
In 2013, the stadium partnered with Ping HD, a full service digital signage solutions provider to upgrade their traditional static menus to digital. This gave them the ability to update menu board offerings in real time all the while increasing fan engagement and speeding up the overall ordering process.
As technology continues to evolve, venues like Broncos Stadium at Mile High understand how adding onsite digital experiences can benefit both the stadium and the fans.
In an effort to deploy a new concept that would unite fans with local eateries, The stadium reached out to Ping HD to help design and deploy a series of multi-purpose carts that would include digital menu boards and new self ordering kiosks.
To be successful, these stands needed to be sleek, portable and include a technology package that would attract attention while encouraging fans to stop, interact and order.
Ping HD worked closely with Gallery, a custom cart fabricator chosen by the stadium because of their commitment to design carts that would meet the specified requirements for the project.
Ten 49’ Samsung SoC displays were used to help attract attention and educate patrons on the food options/offerings as they walk by . Each menu display was setup to run the cloud-based EngagePHD Digital signage CMS. This gives stadium staff the freedom to manage digital content in real-time on any display from anywhere. A third party vendor provided the self ordering kiosks and POS integration.
Once the technical aspects were ironed out, Ping HD designed custom digital menu board content that was both modern and enticing to highlight the chefs, their ingredients and help promote concepts local to the area.
The project wrapped up just in time for the 2018 Denver Broncos home opener. Ten portable action stands were deployed across the club level concourse as a proof of concept. The success was seen immediately, the addition of these action stands reduced the total number of wait staff needed to assist with ordering, Fan engagement increased and wait times were reduced allowing fans to spend less time in the concourse and more time watching the game.
